iSTEM (Maker)
Introduction
Welcome to the School Maker's Club, where the exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is at the heart of everything we do. Our club is dedicated to fostering a spirit of ethical and collaborative inquiry among students.
Our philosophy is centered around inspiring curiosity and creativity while emphasizing the importance of ethical practices in STEM disciplines. Through engaging activities, hands-on projects, and exciting competitions, we aim to cultivate and sustain interest in STEM fields.
Our vision is to create a dynamic learning environment that not only prepares students for success in STEM subjects but also instills a passion for lifelong learning and a commitment to making meaningful contributions to society. We believe in the transformative power of STEM education to empower individuals and positively impact the world around us.
Join us as we embark on a journey of discovery, innovation, and personal growth. Together, let's explore the endless possibilities that STEM has to offer and unlock our potential to shape a brighter future.
Achievements
In 2024, our Maker's Club made remarkable strides by participating in various prestigious events and competitions, showcasing our members' passion and dedication to STEM exploration.
STEM outreach at Tampines Regional Library: Collaborating with the Makerspace@Dunman, our members helped to facilitate a mini-bricks workshop at Tampines Regional Library.
Markers members took part in a STEM outreach program aimed at introducing simple STEM concepts to preschool students. During the session, our members engaged the children through fun, hands-on activities such as building basic cardboard structures.
Our CCA had the privilege of hosting a group of students and teachers from Vietnam for an educational exchange. As part of the visit, our members facilitated a workshop on hydroponics using our school's vertical farming system.
During the workshop, we introduced the fundamentals of hydroponic farming, highlighting its advantages and applications in sustainable agriculture. Our members demonstrated how to set up and maintain a hydroponic system, explaining the role of water, nutrients, and light in plant growth. The visitors also had hands-on experience planting seedlings and observing the functioning of our vertical farming setup.
This collaboration provided a unique opportunity for cross-cultural learning, allowing our members to share their knowledge and skills while learning about agricultural practices in Vietnam.
Our CCA recently participated in the Science Fair organized by A*STAR and Victoria Junior College (VJC). Three of our teams showcased their innovative projects, which highlighted creativity, scientific inquiry, and teamwork.
We are proud to share that one of our teams achieved a Silver Award, a testament to their dedication and hard work. The experience provided all participants with valuable insights into scientific research and the opportunity to learn from other talented teams.
This accomplishment reflects our CCA’s commitment to fostering a passion for STEM and cultivating excellence among our members.
