Excellence, innovation, and ethics have been the cornerstones of Dunman Secondary School since its humble beginnings in 1963, and these guiding principles have helped the school to grow in its stature to be recognised as an outstanding school with academic excellence and character development.
But while we are proud to be part of a handful of Singapore schools that have half a century of history, we are also mindful that with rich history comes great commitment - a commitment to continue providing an exceptional Dunman Education for all Dunmanites who walk through our gates.
The Dunman Education strives to prepare all Dunmanites to be world-ready and anchored in sound values. This has been the impetus for our numerous curricular innovations that infuse 21st century competencies such as critical and inventive thinking and cross-cultural skills. In particular, we have developed a niche in Science, and hope to support schools in the east through our Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Science.
In addition, Dunman Secondary has also done well in the co-curricular arena. We are highly regarded in the schools' sports scene for basketball, volleyball, and netball. Our choir and guitar ensemble have also been our pride, and our uniformed groups have done consistently well over the years. Indeed, the Dunman Education emphasises our duty to serve, and these co-curricular activities, together with our Values-In-Action programme, provide Dunmanites with opportunities to be a blessing to the community.
These achievements have helped Dunman Secondary to garner numerous accolades for organisational excellence, and we are grateful for them. Nevertheless, we measure our success not by these awards, but by the lives of Dunmanites whom we have touched and changed. We want to give every Dunmanite an exceptional educational experience. We want to nurture them to be ethical change-makers who are morally upright and responsible for their future. And we want to instil in them a desire to bring about positive changes in society. To realise this dream, we introduced the '50 Acts of Service' as part of Dunman's jubilee celebrations in 2013 which encouraged all Dunmanites to initiate service learning projects that would make a difference in the lives of people in our community.
Indeed, we are committed to providing an invaluable experience for all Dunmanites, and to do that, we believe in working with our community. As an African Proverb poignantly states, 'If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together', we have come thus far because we have journeyed together with the support of our stakeholders and partners. We are thankful to all of them for their contributions, and hope to continue building strong relationships with them, so that together with all Dunmanites, we may work as One Dunman to continue our mission of providing an exceptional educational experience for each and every student.
To that end, we invite you to be part of this exceptional journey at Dunman.
Mr Suresh Balakrishnan
